Industrial - Cheshire bound inventory of the Spring Waters Dyeworks, Romiley, Cheshire dated April 1914, typescript on 164pp folio, black Morrocco boards with gilt title. Prepared by auctioneers for the breakup and sale of the works. The inventory lists everything providing a fascinating insight into the operation of this industrial plant at the end of the industrial revolution just before the start of WWI. Spring Water Dye Works had a rich history in the textile industry, primarily focusing on bleaching and dyeing cotton and later, man-made fibres. Established around 1827, the works operated for over a century, evolving from a focus on natural dyes to incorporating synthetic dyes and eventually specializing in finishing for the rubber proofing trade.
