Crimean War and Indian Mutiny two alss of Major General Sir John William Gordon, dated September 4th 1855 and December 30th 1857. The first discusses the ongoing Crimean War: ‘…Sevastopol however swallow up all the land forces & till that is taken I do not suppose any troops will be spared for the Baltic…' The second letter discusses a court martial, and mentions the activities of Lt Gen Wilbraham Lennox VC, and Col John Ewart - who on December 1st lost his arm in an action during the Indian Mutiny - and their involvement in the case as witnesses. The letter also mentions Lord Somerset who was a commander during the Mutiny.
