Slavery Edition of the London Chronicle for November 3rd 1810 carrying an extensive report on the treatment of slaves in Jamaica, and particularly the case of William Foot, who was born in London but had not documentary proof of the event. The report reflects the national horror of slavery which was to lead shortly afterwards to the full abolition in all British Colonies. Of the case of William Foot, the paper declares: ‘Whether this poor man will be able to prove his freedom or not it is impossible for us to say, but nothing can be more shocking than a man born in London should, by any accident in a British colony be exposed to be sold as a slave…'
