WALES - HISTORY OF AGRICULTURE - JOHN JOHNES long autograph letter signed, in his capacity as Auditor in the Welsh Office to the High Sheriff of Montgomeryshire, dated June 29th 1790, 1p folio with integral address panel. Pointing out various irregularities in the audit of the county and making various demands. Johnes is noted for his innovations in agriculture undertaking experiments in sheet and cattle breeding together with the growing of new crops, as well as planting great quantities of trees in areas previously thought unsuitable for crops. He was born in Ludlow, and his family home was Croft Castle near Leominster, now in the care of the National Trust. But his greatest achievement was the development of the Haford Estate, at Cwmystwyth, Ceredigian near to Aberystwyth which is now considered to be one of the finest examples in Europe of a picturesque landscape
