Lancelot Richard Gibbs (b.1934) West Indies Cricket Cap - a maroon cloth cap with West Indies emblem to front with ‘L.R. Gibbs 6 5/8’ printed internally. Also comes with a photograph of the West Indies Cricket Team on the steps of shirt maker’s Van Heusen shop, Taunton, measures 21x16cm approx. L. R. Gibbs was a former West Indies cricketer, one of the most successful spin bowlers in Test cricket history. He took 309 Test wickets, only the second player to pass 300. The Cap was given to the vendor’s father who was Marketing Manager for the shirt maker’s Van Heusen. As seen in the photograph the West Indies team visited in 1973 when they played at the Somerset County Ground. The Cap was presented to the vendor’s father by Lance Gibbs in thanks for help with the visit. The 1973 West Indies Tour was significant as it led to the foundation of the West Indies Players Association.
