1960 Gt Britain Rugby League World Cup Shirt and Cap – No.17 long sleeve shirt was issued to and worn by John ‘Joby’ Shaw (Halifax) together with the Gt Britain velvet cap. - The shirt comes with Gt Britain Crest c/w “World Cup 1960” inscribed below – Shaw was originally selected as second choice hooker to Tommy Harris (Hull) and was assigned the squad number 17 for the tournament. Harris was injured during the first match against New Zealand and was replaced by Shaw for the two remaining games. This shirt was worn by Shaw in the final cup winning game against Australia. Both teams went into the third and final deciding match level on four points each and Britain won the World Cup by beating Australia 10-3 for the 2nd time in three years after winning the inaugural World Cup in 1954.
