Maritime - George Moorsom ‘Moorsom System’ – Of Historical Importance - archive of papers and reports relating to the development of the 1854 Tonnage System - with some documents signed by George Moorsom, includes what appears to be the original submission to the board of trade in July 1850 of Moorsom’s paper on the admeasurement of the Tonnage measurement of Merchant shipping by means of a system of internal measurements, includes hand written report with the typed version printed by William Rock both entitled ‘A Mode Proposed for Determining The Register Tonnage of Merchant Shipping by Means of a system of Internal Measurements’, including numerous hand written letters and correspondence predominantly c.1850s, this unique set of documents was put into use in 1849 and became British Law in 1854. Notes suggest Mr Moosom died in 1866.
