1923 Bathgate FC 9carat Gold Football Medal for the match versus Queens Park in the Scottish FA Cup, the match played before a 60,000 plus crowd with the result 1-1. The occasion marked the presence of the then Duke of York (later to become King George VI). The medal 26mm diameter and 14g in weight, to the obverse has the crown to the top, raised enamel club crests representing the two clubs, engraved 1923 to the top and Hampden to the lower part. To the reverse it has the hallmark, engraved ‘To J. Lees (dir) B.F.C in commemoration of the H.R.H Duke of York’s visit’. Also has what appears to be the original box, the medal is in good condition, the box is fair with a torn side. Note: Bathgate FC were in Division 2 of the Scottish League at the time but, in the next few years, were troubled by financial difficulties and resigned from the Scottish league without completing the fixtures.
