REEL: Rare Allcock’s Improved Roller back Aerial factory special variant reel with Royal connections, 4” diameter, black factory finish throughout, 6 nickel spoke drum with tension regulator and drum release, twin white stepped handles, German silver rim binding to front alloy flange, 8 large ventilations, ebonite rear flange, narrow drum example, 2 screw smooth brass foot, all correct, 4 rollers factory fitted to backplate, exposed to rear, Allcock’s Stag Logo and crescent address details showing, retaining virtually all original black paint finish, clearly not fished much. Drum spins true and clear of rollers, superb example, no cracks, damage or alterations. **Ordered by Sir Thomas Peel Dunhill (1876-1957) Surgeon to the Royal Household, either the original roller backplate was lost or broken and so a later backplate from a lever aerial prior to having the slot cut, further to facilitate the rollers being fitted, Allcock’s had to fit a calliper check instead of the original bar type check seen on lot 107, this reel was the property of Sir Thomas Peel Dunhill and later casting and tournament champion Barrie Welham** COA and provenance, Angling Auctions letter, lot 150 April 2006 apply.
