Ephemera – Flanders – early poster by the government of Austrian Brabant (now Belgium)

Ephemera – Flanders – early poster by the government of Austrian Brabant (now Belgium). Bruxelles 1788. Imperial Austrian Coat of Arms top centre. Proclamation in French assuring the population of Brabant that effort to overthrow Austrian rule would be forgotten in exchange for future loyalty. Issued in the names of Marie Christina of Austria and her husband Prince Albert of Saxony, joint governors of the Austrian Netherlands. Unfortunately they were good and loyal for just over a year, because the French Revolution the following year sparked a further naughty behaviour and revolt which lead to the end of Austrian rule in 1795. Detailed black printing, size 8.75” x 13”.
