India – Mahatma Gandhi portrait in oils showing Gandhi standing full length, staff in his right hand, his left arm is by his side and an angelic halo covers the back of his head. Gandhi is seen in a landscape and in the background the skyline reflects the religious trinity – of Christian Church, Mosque and Temple. Overall size approx 100x75cm, signed ‘V V Divkar’ in English to bottom right hand corner. We understand that this painting was completed just after Gandhi’s assassination in 1948, and stands as a symbol of the bringing together of the various faiths of Indian which was a lifelong hope of Gandhi’s life.
