India – M K Gandhi – father of the Indian nation autograph letter signed ‘Bapu M K Gandhi’ on a postcard dated February 18th 1942 to Shi R Achutan, a student at that time in the Central Jail at Rajahmundry. Gandhi writes from the Sevagram and the postcard carries a British ‘Censored’ mark. Writing in English, Gandhi says ‘I have your letter. I am glad you are all spinning & make wise use of your time. I am asking Dr Palthahni to attend to your requirements. Yours Bapu (M K Gandhi). Clearly a coded message to a follower who at that time was in prison. Gandhi himself would be imprisoned by the British in August of the same year. It is probable that the recipient of this postcard is the Shri R Achutan who went on to become an influential Member of Parliament in India and a prolific author of books about Gandhi.
