James I – Hereford ms transcript of the Charter of Hereford granted by James I, written in English, probably in a 17th c hand on approx 41pp sm4to paper, together with a further transcript probably in an 18th c hand of the confirmation of the Charter by William III. The original James I charter was written in Latin and resides in the public archives. This was clearly a translated transcript probably used for legal purposes later in the 17th c, together with a further transcript in the 18th c again presumably written out for legal purposes. Both transcripts are in a neat legible hand and despite slight dusting and browning of the paper, some close cropping with loss of a few words and a water stain to top of pages, the document is in generally good order throughout.
