Political a fine example of a marching banner, this one Conservative bearing the slogan ‘Success to Captain Boyd-Carpenter and Tariff Reform’, with embroidered profile of him flanked by various embroidered scenes depicting farming pursuits as well as scenes from the colonies. Also mentions pro-Empire slogans. Blue background with white embroidery, hanging rings to top, in fine unblemished condition. Political marching banners are somewhat rare. This one is a fine example. Major Sir Archibald Boyd-Carpenter (1873-1937) was MP for Bradford North, Coventry and then Chertsey. The present banner mentions Balfour, Chamberlain and Lansdowne, so probably dates from around 1910. Approx 140x107cm
