I would not be Back Stop for our bowlers for £100 – we have got a very good one of the name of H Jarding, a shoemaker, he stands at a very little distance behind the batter and catches all those swift balls on his knew, which he showed me this morning before they began. I never saw such a sight before it was all the colours of the rainbow and seems marked to a jelly – he is a capital player and rather like a steam carriage for I can compare him to nothing else he is so swift...’
